Are you planning a commercial move during the holidays?  If so, you are not alone. Many companies prefer to move their operations during the holiday season, because it tends to be a slower time of the year for their business or industry.

This Article Talks About The Following:
1 Planning Your Office Move During the Holidays
2 5 Steps for Planning an Office Move:
3 Specific Considerations When Moving Your Business During the Holidays
3.1 Timing
3.2 Space Planning Trends
3.3 Budgets
4 Additional Advice

Thus, relocating during the holidays typically means the least amount of interruption or downtime for businesses and for their customers and clients.

In addition to the holidays traditionally being a slower time of year for many businesses, it is also a time when more employees tend to take time off of work. As such, there are generally fewer people in the office. Fewer people means less overall disturbance, which can make moving at this time of year ideal for many businesses.

But it is also important to keep in mind that while it might be a relatively slower time of the year for your business, that professional commercial movers generally stay pretty busy during the holidays. For that reason, be sure to select your moving company and schedule your move as early as possible.

Planning Your Office Move During the Holidays

As with all moves, it is essential to properly plan and organize every aspect in order for the process to go smoothly, and to keep everything on track. This is true regardless of the time of year that you are moving your office.

So, when it comes to planning your office move, we like to keep things simple by breaking it down into 5 easy steps.

5 Steps for Planning an Office Move:

  1. Develop an office move plan and stick to it as much as possible
  2. Put together a move team and delegate tasks and responsibilities
  3. Plan for your new space
  4. Interview and hire a commercial moving company
  5. Preparing for the physical move

Specific Considerations When Moving Your Business During the Holidays

Timing

When moving during the holidays, timing can be everything. As previously noted, a higher number of companies might be planning their moves as well, which means that you might be competing for mover availability.

And, the mover that you hire can make all the difference. So be sure and do your research and ask for recommendations so that you can be assured that you are hiring the best, more reputable mover for your particular situation.

We always recommend interviewing commercial movers (maybe two or three), and making your selection at least 90 in advance of your move. Of course, the sooner you hire a commercial mover and get on their schedule, the better.

Space Planning Trends

The importance of space planning cannot be overemphasized as the most critical component in today’s workspace environments. This is true when it comes to moving to a new space, as well as the immediate need to reconfigure existing spaces to accommodate recent health and safety guidelines.

We are now living in the age of COVID-19, which means that business owners and their employees have to feel confident that appropriate health and safety measures have been properly implemented.

For that reason, we are working very closely with our customers to reconfigure their office spaces to help them prepare for the successful return of their workforce. This often includes making sure that social distancing is possible and that partitions are installed where necessary.

At the same time, we are actively assisting customers with their space planning needs when they are moving to a new facility.

There is obviously a big push towards more private, isolated workspaces as opposed to the large, open, collaborative work environments that have been the norm for the past couple of decades. And for the immediate future, we certainly expect this trend to continue.

Budgets

Moving your business during the holidays might also be attractive because it satisfies your company’s end-of-the-year budget. There might even be a surplus of unused budgetary expenditures, which need to be spent within the current calendar year.

hiring a moving company

So, we often find that in November and December that companies prefer to get their big budget items, such as a move, completed before the end of the year.  In many cases, an unused budget doesn’t necessarily carry over to the following year. In other words, it might be a use it or lose it situation. Moving during the holidays can alleviate that concern.

Additional Advice

It is also important for both the mover and the customer to have a clear and concise understanding as to the full scope of the move project. At the beginning of the process, this ensures that the mover will be able to provide you with an accurate bid on the work to be done, and that they can carry it out accordingly. Then, throughout each stage of the process, everyone will be on the same page and working towards the same goals.

Not only that, but many times commercial movers are also able to provide additional services that fall far outside of what you might expect. So, candidly discuss your move plans in their entirety with your mover, and make sure that they are the best fit for your company and project.

At Daryl Flood, we pride ourselves in successfully delivering traditional commercial moving services, as well as providing out-of-the-box solutions to best serve our customers.

So, whether you are planning a business move during the holidays or any other time during the year, contact us for all of your commercial moving solutions.
